Art 1 - Portfolio

My favorite material this year had to be the pencil. It allows you to add more detail to drawings and creates an outline of your art so it stands out from the rest of the drawing. Another thing I like about it is that it doesn't color your hands. In my opinion, the pencil is one of the greatest inventions ever. When fully sharpened, it can give you more precise lines than any other art tool. On top of that, it's extremely easy to grip. Most of the projects I feel I actually did well on are in pencil. I dare you to find a better art tool than the pencil. The pencil helped me create the 1 point perspective drawing.

This top hat mug had to be my most successful art piece. I used pinch potting to create the top and slab to create the bottom of it. I spent a long time smoothing the edges of the cup to make sure was perfect. I then smoothed out the slab at the bottom and made it round. I had to score the top of the slab to put the two together. I then began molding the handle into shape. Scoring it on to the cup was difficult but I made it through. After it was fired in the kiln I started painting it, painting around the handle was also pretty hard. I glazed the inside of it so I could drink from it, but it didn't taste very good.

I feel the shadow art project had the least to do with what we learned this year. Sure, it taught us about illusion, but that was about it. It didn't teach shading, mixing colors, or perspectives. We were just alone to try to make something that looked cool. This could have been better if we made the background ourselves using MS paint or made the materials ourselves using scissors and paper. It did not teach us perspective because no matter which way we make it, it will still be 2-D. It did not teach mixing colors because we did not create the objects or background ourselves. It did not teach shading because the objects were shadows, which are all black.
